When I (Mac) started coaching my daughter (Annie) in December of 2022, she was 6 years old and one of the youngest players in her rec league. My goal as a first year coach was simple... make basketball fun for her and her teammates. After the season ended I noticed Annie wanted to keep playing, but our neighborhood courts lacked 8-foot nets for her to shoot on and build confidence. As luck would have it, we met Mark Atwood, Executive Director of Old Pine Community Center. From there we struck up a deal to bring lower rims into OPCC and use their space to offer clinics to neighborhood girls (including Annie) at an affordable price. And within a few weeks we went from a few kids to offering full blown clinics.

BIO: Coach Mac is probably the only player in college basketball history to register significantly more personal fouls than points. When he wasn't hacking Centennial Conference opponents for a year, he spent countless hours working on shooting mechanics and coaching kids at places like North Penn High School, Perkiomen Valley School District, and even Villanova Summer Camp during Jay Wright's early years. After taking a 19 year hiatus during which he spent time learning how to function as an adult, in 2022 Mac became commissioner and coach of the Taney Dragon's Girls Ivy League Division. He started SBA in September of 2023 with the goal of bringing fun and affordable basketball to kids in the neighborhood!

Coach Pat Egan

SBA Co-Founder; Pure Hooper; Nice Person; Volunteer Coach

BIO: Coach Pat probably scored 2,000 points or something crazy like that at Fleetwood High School. I think he scored 8 points alone during the possession pictured above. After High School he went on to become First-Team-All-Ursinus Intermurals, where he won 4 straight championships from 2001 to 2005, playing alongside Coach Mac for 3 of those seasons. As a coach, Coach Pat was a force to be reckoned with in the highly touted Narberth Summer League for the better part of a decade, where he led multiple middle school teams to tens of wins before giving it up to also spend more time adulting. He returns to the game with a bit more grey hair, but still as fundamentally sound as ever.

Liz Moore

SBA Co-Founder; Did Have A Basketball Net As A Child; Willing to Vouch for Mac and Pat

BIO: Liz is a writer and a teacher. She once wrote a book of fiction that had a kid in it, and that fictitious kid was very good at baseball, which like basketball is also a sport. She sometimes attends basketball games with her husband Mac, and seems to genuinely enjoy them and isn't just being nice. Liz has basically always been a functioning adult and has never needed to block dedicated time to figuring out how to be one. She is excited to help make SBA a success, and to support Old Pine Community Center.

Please take no offense to this, but Coach Val is significantly more positive than you. After a standout career at North Penn High School, she went on to play four years of college basketball right here in the Keystone State (2 for Bloomsburg and 2 for the West Chester Golden Rams). The 2x PSAC Scholar Athlete is currently a Masters Student at West Chester University, focusing on Clinical Mental Health and pursuing a path in Children's Mental Health. Her rebounding drills are catching on throughout the city, and we are lucky to have her on board (pun intended)!

Coach Erin will seriously wreck you bro. While playing lacrosse at Yale, she'd sneak out of her dorm late at night to play in illegal pickup basketball games that Yale non-hooper athletes were forbidden to participate in. She once told me about a time when a lacrosse coach came into the gym unexpectedly, but without missing a beat all the players starting singing "Don't Rain On My Parade" from Funny Girl to trick the coach into thinking they were in fact practicing for a musical theater production. That's how dedicated to the hoops game Coach Erin is. After this rebellious period in her life, Coach Erin became a mentor, teacher, high school and college lacrosse and hoops coach, and a seriously dedicated mom. She is an amazing recruiter for SBA, an awesome coach for the local Dragons girls youth basketball league, and an absolute pleasure to have in the gym.

Coach Bridget is the only proven stone-cold assassin on this rag-tag coaching staff. The First State native and Ursinus college 3-time captain finished her career 9th all time in scoring, 1st all time in 3-pt FGs made, and 2nd all time in 3-pt FGs made for the Conference (242)!
